WESTERN FIRE SUPPLIES HIGH VOLUME AIR COMPRESSORS, CYLINDER BANK SYSTEMS, AND FILL STATIONS TO AMERICAN SEAFOODS FLEET VESSELS
IN LIGHT OF PACIFIC GLACIER FIRE

F/V Pacific Glacier caught fire while at sea, February 26th, 2008. Sixteen brave members of the crew stayed on board, and with the assistance of several fishing vessels in the surrounding area quickly arriving to their aid, supplying and sharing their fire safety equipment, they extinguished the fire after five long and strenuous hours. Due to the heroic acts of the crew and their fire fighting ability, every single crew member aboard the Pacific Glacier was accounted for and safe. The vessel was also able to continue, under their own power, back to Seattle, where they will undergo approx. $55 million dollars in repairs.

Western Fire & Safety was happy to be a part of outfitting several American Seafoods Company fleet vessels with new high capacity air compressors for their vessels. In light of the Pacific Glacier fire, many companies in the industry have increased their fire fighting capability on board their vessels. Upgrades included high capacity air compressors, air cylinder banks, air filling stations, upgraded or new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus units, and tons of spare SCBA cylinders, fireman's bunker gear, and fixed fire suppression systems. Companies that performed these upgrades, amongst many, are American Seafoods Company, Arctic Storm and Arctic Fjord Company, North Pacific Fishing Company, Trident Seafoods Company, and B & N Fisheries.

We are proud to see the vessels take the threat of fire on board, while at sea, very seriously, and also that with proper training and quick reaction, they can assist in sparing the lives of the crew on board while also sparing the vessel significant damage. We watched as many of the American Seafoods fleet crew underwent training through the winter months before sailing.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

Brookdale Product Recall / Refund Announcement:

Return Period Ended

Following our "Suspend Use" advisory of March 8, 2006, and in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Brookdale International Systems Inc. voluntarily recalled all EVAC-U8 and EVAC+ emergency escape smoke hoods currently in the marketplace worldwide that had not reached their expiration date. These products were purchased to provide respiratory protection in a structural smoke/fire emergency.

Recent tests have confirmed that use of these products in a smoke or fire emergency may expose the user to harmful carbon monoxide, which could seriously compromise their ability to escape a fire threat. Therefore, these products SHOULD NOT BE USED. The company is not aware of any incidents where a user of these products was exposed to harmful levels of carbon monoxide.

Customers who returned Brookdale smoke hoods before the stated return period deadline have already or will shortly receive a prorated refund based on the remaining shelf life, as indicated by the expiration date printed (along with the serial number) on the side of each canister. Units that reached their expiry date prior to March 2006 were not eligible for refund. As set out in the user's manual, all expired units should be discarded.

The deadline for returning products for refund from customers outside Europe was June 16, 2006. For logistical reasons the European deadline was June 30th.

A recall was also in effect for the following SCBA emergency escape respirators. The return deadline for these products has also passed.

  • EVACpro for Scott Emergency Escape Respirator
  • EVACpro for Dräger Emergency Escape Respirator
  • Survivair SmokeEater Air-Purifying Escape Canister
Brookdale sincerely regrets any inconvenience created by this product recall. We have been, and continue to be working diligently to rectify this situation in a safe, thorough and responsible manner. Our highest priority is the safety of our customers, and the steps we have taken are a demonstration of that commitment.

Brookdale does not anticipate having replacement products available in the near future.

Yours truly,

Derrick Russell
President, Brookdale International Systems Inc.
